As is the trend for most of my blogs, I feel that I have to at least acknowledge the fact that my blog is missing several important holidays and one very important announcement, given that in a little over four months our One Hot Baby will become Two Hot Babies! Filling in the holes in my blog is just one of the things I hope to cross off of a long mental to-do list in the next four months. But for now, we'll start off fresh for the new year.
I started my New Years Eve this year with a Red Lobster date with my two best boys. Even though Cohen was a few hours short of watching the ball drop at his 8:00 bedtime, he still enjoyed some festivities. I spent a lot of New Years Day trying to teach him that we were saying "Happy New Year" and not "Happy MiMi!!"
It was the first New Years that Jeff and I have spent at home for as long as we can remember. Sadly, as the parents of a very busy two year old, we were most excited that we were able to make it to midnight without falling asleep on the couch.
My first New Years kiss of 2013 possibly came from this guy!!
As for resolutions, mine mainly involve completing all the unfinished projects I have in my house - like having pictures framed and hung on the wall. I realize that if they don't get finished now, they may never get done. I also hope to do a much better job at keeping our house clean, so that I don't have a panic attack every time there is the possibility of a surprise guest. I have to admit that it is nice not to have to include dieting and working out in my resolutions this year...as I sit here working on this blog and eating Barbecue Fritos!! Here are what I have to assume to be a few of Cohen's resolutions for the year:
#1 - Work on his music
#2 - Do more cleaning
#3 - Take good care of his vehicles (he is polishing the wheels of his tractor)!
I am hoping that the way my new year started in no way sets the course for the rest of the year, since I spent the first week recovering from bronchitis and a sinus infection. I was very fortunate to have the week off from work to recover and to enjoy lots of quality time with my favorite little guy. Of course Cohen's number one resolution for the new year, was to break in all of his new Christmas presents!
He is a very courteous scooter driver and now yells "Cohen's coming!"
I took this video because I was so impressed by the remote control driving skills of a two year old!
Just wanted to throw these next two in there because at our house, dinosaurs and giant lizards live on farms!
Also, people like Spiderman and Thor drive John Deere tractors at our house!
I could be wrong, but it seems that all the new-ness of his Christmas toys wore off after 1-2 weeks and he was already back to some old faithfuls....like Daddy and Howie!
Howie playing monster trucks....and looking so happy about it!
A casualty of bath tub crayons...I think the colors really bring out his eyes!!
You would think a dog could catch a break after all that abuse!
Even after all of that, Howie still loves him!
Our Christmas miracle this year was the fact that Cohen and Jeff didn't get the bronchitis/sinus infection that I came down with three days before Christmas. However, they did both get a cold during the first week of January. With the threat of flu and nasty stomach viruses everywhere, we have been trying to keep Cohen in the house as much as possible. As a result, he has found some "unique" ways to entertain himself in the last few weeks!
After a few minutes of being "too quiet" in his room one day, I found him doing this....
Rocking and reading to every stuffed animal he had in his room...he then preceded to cover them with every blanket he has in his room!
And as we all know, sometimes they just won't sleep unless they're in bed with you!
These next new "games" that Cohen has started playing have Jeff a little worried as to whether we are raising a boy or a girl!! In his defense, all of his toys are downstairs and so while I'm cleaning upstairs, he doesn't have a lot of options!
I made the mistake of telling him he looked like a king. He then started calling himself King Cohen and demanded that I sing the "King Cohen" song he made up over and over!
The first time he put all of his"beads" on, he told me that he was going to fight. When I asked him to make a fight face, this is what I got. If he insists on wearing this stuff out all the time, he may need to know how to fight!
This is just pure talent at work...he put every headband I own on his head all by himself! Even Jeff was impressed that he figured out how to do this.
Of course there's always the old standby - coloring. I am just going to tell myself that this new busy tongue he has is the result of some kind of art prodigy in which simply coloring alone is too easy for him so that he just needs something extra to do!!
After spending the last two weekends in the house, it seems like our year has been off to kind of a slow, boring start. But looking back over the first few weeks of January, our house has already been kind of a busy place! My sister and her family came and stayed with us for a night when they were visiting from VA during the second weekend in January. My parents came down for dinner that night, so our house was full of some of Cohen's favorite people. While they were in town, we also made sure that both boys got to entertain their great-grandparents.
Saturday morning cartoon time
Teaching MiMi how to use the iPad!
Who needs toys when you have PawPaw Dave!
Entertaining Grammy and Pa with his fiddle skills on Saturday night!
Sunday dinner with Pops and GiGi
We've also had a new "roommate" in our house for the last few weeks. Jeff's best friend Derek has been working in Huntington and so to cut his drive down from an hour+ to about 15 minutes, he's been staying with us two nights a week. It's been working out well for Cohen since he has an extra person to play with and Derek brings him new toys. It's been working out well for mommy and daddy because we had been having trouble getting Cohen to sleep through the night until we told him that he couldn't wake up crying because he would wake up Derek too - it was magic the first night and we've had no problems since!
Filling up the bank that Derek got him....with money that Derek gave him!
Derek taught him how to shake the bank...sadly he shook it so much that he dropped it and cracked it shortly thereafter!
Unfortunately the weather postponed a much anticipated trip from our BFFs Sarah and Ben last weekend. And by weather, I mean snow in TN/VA....not at our house! Cohen and I ended up spending the weekend together, since Jeff was working the FYAO booth at the West Virginia Hunting and Fishing Show in Charleston, Friday-Sunday. Cohen and I made a special trip out on Sunday to show our support though!
Proud of Daddy's hard work!
Jeff making a tough sale!
Paw-Paw Dave was there too, advertising his taxidermy business - it looks like the two of them were doing some shopping!
Yay for free toys at the Hunting and Fishing Show!
And Cohen's favorite animal at the WEST VIRGINIA hunting and fishing show.....a zebra (or "zeebah as he calls it)!!
Sarah and Ben's visit has been rescheduled for later next month and I thought we were actually going to get some snow of our own this weekend - we were really ready for it too!
We even had the snow clothes laid out and ready to go! (I will point out that this snowsuit is too little for Cohen since we haven't bought one this year, given that the one we bought last year only got used once. It has only snowed enough for fun two times since Cohen's been old enough to play in it.)
Cohen wanted to try on this Elmo toboggon that he got for Christmas...
And then he didn't want to take it off!
Poor Cohen and Howie watching for snow....the tiny bit you can see on the ground is all we got though.
Oh and for my last New Years resolution...find a name for my poor little second boy! For now, the closest we've come to a name is Cohen's choice, which is "Cohen" aka "Cohen #2." Jeff is sure that Cohen #2 is going to be stubborn, because even though I get to feel him kick all day long, as soon as I put Jeff or Cohen's hand on my belly, he immediately stops. I told Jeff that I think that our children are already fighting because it feels like Cohen #2 is trying to kick his big brother the entire time I'm trying to rock him to sleep at night. Cohen goes through stages where he wants to talk/listen to the baby, kiss the baby, give the baby milk from his cup (in my belly button), etc., and then stages when he refuses to talk about the baby at all. Then one day when he was sick and cranky, he pointed at my belly and said "I don't want that!" I am ashamed to admit that I only started taking pictures of my belly at 22 weeks. However, now that my belly is big and can fit lots of things on it, Cohen has been excited to be a part of the belly picture process too!
Measured in units important to Cohen, my belly at 22 weeks can hold 4 monster trucks!
Cohen can currently count to 14 so at least we're learning new numbers!
Sweet boy giving his brother a hug
I know Cohen is going to be a great big brother because he already likes to share...during some recent cartoon time, he wanted his baby brother to have some goldfish with him!
